Accountability

To ensure that Blue Sky’s high professional and ethical standards are monitored and maintained, all Blue Sky operations are overseen by an independent Ethical Overview Committee.

Membership: The Ethical Overview Committee consists of individuals of international standing and unimpeachable integrity who are neither shareholders nor employees of Blue Sky. Current membership of the Committee includes:

Martin Bell OBE. International media correspondent with BBC for 30 years, having reported on conflicts across the world from Vietnam to Bosnia. In his distinctive white suit, he then became an independent Member of Parliament, elected on an ‘anti-sleaze’ platform. Currently acts as Special Representative for UNICEF.

Dr David Shattock CBE O.St.J QPM. Spent over 40 years in the police force during which time he attended the Royal College of Defence Studies before rising to become Chief Constable of Dyfed Powys and then of Avon & Somerset. Since leaving the force he has acted as Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Mauritius and is currently working with a number of charitable trusts and social programmes in the UK.

General Sir Rupert Smith KCB DSO OBE QGM. Professional soldier for 40 years, serving in Africa, Arabia, the Caribbean, Malaysia and Europe culminating in appointments as Commander 1st (UK) Armoured Division in the Gulf; Assistant Chief of Defence Staff in UK Ministry of Defence; Commander of UN Protection Force in Bosnia-Herzegovina; GOC Northern Ireland; and NATO Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe.

Modus Operandi: The Ethical Overview Committee meets regularly to review all Blue Sky operations and activities – whether proposed, ongoing or recently completed. Individually or collectively, Committee members have the right of veto if they feel that the operations or services being requested or proposed do not meet Blue Sky’s ethical standards. They are also available to advise the executive board of directors on ethical or professional issues at any stage of a project.

Appeals: Blue Sky encourages anyone with a legitimate involvement in its operations (whether as sponsor, client, employee or in any other capacity) to contact the company, and ultimately to the Ethical Overview Committee, should they feel that ethical standards are not being met. Complaints should be addressed in the first instance to the Director of the Blue Sky Group Foundation, who acts as Secretary to the Committee - by email (appeals@bsgfoundation.org) or by mail to Blue Sky Head Office.
